“If you’re not taking care of the small time, you’re not ready for the BIG TIME.”
–el Furecat
Many people daydream about making it big. Oftentimes, along with this dreams comes a feeling of frustration, a sense that “I should already be there now.”
In many of these cases, small time stuff is not getting done. It’s being avoided.
Having big desires is great when you’ve proven that you’re ready for them. But if you’re resisting and avoiding the small stuff, how are you ever going to be ready for something much bigger? After all, the big stuff is nothing but a lot of smaller stuff that is assembled over time.
To write the first sentence of a book you begin with the first word. A dozen chapters begins with an outline.
An MLB hitting coach once told me, “I don’t just look at a player’s swing. I also want to see how he takes a pitch.”
Taking a pitch may appear to be a small thing, yet it reveals a players strengths, weaknesses and tendencies. It reveals whether he has assumed the position that shows he is ready to hit.
No matter your intentions, everything you do in life is not going to be a home run. This is why you learn to make contact with the ball first. You get into the ready position. You focus on making contact, because without focus and contact you have nothing.
When are you ready for the big time?
You’re ready when you prove that you are consistently getting the small time stuff done. You’re making contact with the ball that is right in front of you.
Keep in mind, everything in life, every goal, every desire, is composed of nothing but small stuff. And everything in life is a mental picture that is working for or against you.
Here endeth the lesson.
