The following is an excerpt from my new book, Psycho-Cybernetics 365, which thanks to so many, is doing extraordinarily well.
“I will practice smiling at least three times during the day.” – Maxwell Maltz, M.D. Psycho-Cybernetics, Updated and Expanded
Smiling at least three times per day is an achievable goal and a worth-
while one at that. When you smile, you instantly begin to feel better about yourself due to the positive neurotransmitters released in the brain.
When you smile at others, they usually respond in turn. When you smile as you think about the people you love, you see them in a different light. And when you smile into the goals and actions you want to take, you become aware that energy is released, making the process much easier.
There are thousands of opportunities to smile each day, and they begin
as soon as you wake up. They begin long before you look at your face in the mirror.
The moment you open your eyes, consciously pull the outsides of your
lips upward a bit, then let them down. Repeat this a few times so you really experience the difference a smile makes for you. Make a choice to maintain your smile for at least a minute, then decide if you want to make it last longer.
Over time, you can consciously cultivate this smiling habit and turn it into an unconscious habit. You’ll note how people smile at you when you’re in a store, or out walking, and at first you may not realize why.
Then the reason will come to you. Other people are smiling at you because you walk around all day with upturned lips.
Are you willing to see if smiling can become a habit for you? Remember to
give yourself a minimum of twenty- one days to find out.
