Q: Matt, I read that in order to become successful you need to have thicker skin. But I don’t understand. Doesn’t everyone have the same amount of skin thickness?
Dee R. Matitis
A: Dee, it’s not the physical skin being referred to, but one’s spiritual skin. This skin can be called “the Armor of God.” And the cool thing is that you can have as many layers as you want. The trick, though, is having a strong shield of energy around you without turning into a shell.
With a shield around you, it’s easier to travel through life with a spirit of calmness. You smile and laugh in the face of adversity. You make mistakes and allow yourself to learn from them. And if people criticize you, it bounces off.
This is why success-prone people are said to have thicker skin than those who are failure-prone.
When you have a goal you’re moving toward, it’s a good idea to have a coat of thick skin surrounding you to ward off the negativity of others. It’s also a good idea to surround yourself with thick skin whenever you pray, visualize or meditate.
